Barley groats with sausage and vegetables

45 min

Back to the culinary roots — sometimes you don’t need to experiment in the kitchen.

  • Half a pack of ham sausage from Morliny
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cups of pearl barley
  • 1 litre of broth or water
  • 2–3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 red pepper
  • 2 medium carrots
  • A handful of parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Frying oil
  • Optional: 3 balls of allspice, bay leaf, 1 teaspoon of sweet powdered pepper

Step 1

Dice the sausage. Chop the onion and garlic. Dice the carrots and peppers. Chop the parsley.

Step 2

Use a pot to heat the olive oil, and fry the sausage on it. When it’s browned, add the onion and garlic and fry until soft. Add the remaining vegetables and fry for 2 more minutes. After this time, add the groats with spices, and mix everything thoroughly.

Step 3

Pour the broth over the groats and cook on medium power for about 15 minutes. At the end of cooking, add the parsley, and season it all with salt and pepper.
